First day at AGIT 2017

The first of three days of AGIT is already over. This year, the EXPO foyer area is a bit smaller and the open source projects (OpenStreetMap, FOSSGIS, OSGeo, SAGA GIS, geoOrchestra and Potree) are no longer located in the light-flooded side area, but are still well located thanks to the good lighting and prominent position opposite the break buffet.
After some confusion, all the exhibition materials found their way to Salzburg, and the stand was quickly set up together with the FOSSGIS and OSGeo materials. This year’s highlight is the 43’ flatscreen TV, which showed the popular “Show Me the Way” most of the time (the photo upload with the mobile phone does not work at the moment, so there will be current photos with tomorrow’s update).
There were no long queues at the stand, but there were almost always interested people present. The questions asked were either of a very general nature, to get an overview of OpenStreetMap, or related to commercial use by companies. In general, visitors seem to be increasingly well informed about OpenStreetMap.
In particular, in the morning there were a few interesting encounters with Asian visitors to the stand, who, due to the fact that the exhibition materials were only in German, had to be explained that a few cups taken was not free and that the sample books were not meant to be taken away. As a result, the QGIS instruction books were tied to the table in the style of the OSM books already prepared in this way, in order to leave no doubt about their content.
The OSM mugs sold best with 4 pieces, 2 of the pins were sold and also a FINN changed hands.
A few slightly smaller OSM stickers were brought by WhereGroup, which complemented the usual large OSM stickers well.
Bernhard Jüptner from the BEV (Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying) asked whether the address data set released by the BEV for OpenStreetMap had been well received. This could be seen from the [discussion on talk-at](http://osm-talk-at.1116557.n5. nabble.com/Talk-at-JOSM-Plugin-fur-Osterreichnische-Adressen-td1425.html) and the JOSM plug-in ‘Austrian Address Helper’ were demonstrated.
On Wednesday evening, it is customary for the AGIT exhibitors to offer snacks at the stands and for more informal discussions to take place. At the OpenStreetMap and FOSSGIS table, Mozartkugeln were laid out and a few snack sticks were distributed. The three cases of Augustiner beer, sponsored by Laserdata GmbH, were well received. Most of the visitors concentrated on the stands of larger companies (we couldn’t keep up with the annual distribution of free meat loaf rolls by TraffiCon ;-)), although the Mozartkugeln were still well received.
Tomorrow the longest day of the AGIT begins!
