Maker Faire Vienna 2019 - Build Up & Day 1

As announced in the previous blog post, the OSM.AT association will be represented at the Maker Faire Vienna 2019 with a stand.
The stand was already set up on the Friday before the Maker Faire.
Final touches to the stand
We were given a smaller stand than we are used to at other trade fairs, but with a few adjustments we were able to set up most of the trade fair material. We worked late into the night to get everything ready for the next day.
The (almost) fully assembled OSM stand
On Saturday 4 May at 10 a.m., the gates to the Maker Faire Vienna 2019 were opened to the numerous visitors.
Numerous visitors came to our stand to find out about the OpenstreetMap project.
In the afternoon, ScubbX was able to present the basic functionality of OpenStreetMap in an introductory lecture and to illustrate numerous examples of workpieces based on OpenStreetMap.
Interest and curiosity were aroused from the outset and we were asked a great many different questions. Since the Maker Faire is not an event from the GIS world, we were able to introduce the free world map to visitors who were unfamiliar with OpenstreetMap. It was very exciting to see that visitors who already use OSM learned from us that they can contribute data themselves. This led some of them to create an OSM account and fix the problems they had discovered themselves.
visitors at our stand
Since the Maker Faire Vienna is a very exciting trade fair, we were able to use the breaks to look at other project stands.
The conclusion of the first day is very positive. The stand supervisors agree that it was a very good idea to attend the Maker Faire this year, as it offers the opportunity to spread the OpenstreetMap project outside the IT world and also to encourage the younger generations to participate.
