It’s almost that time again: from July 8-10, 2020, [AGIT] (https://agit.at/), Austria’s largest conference and trade fair on the subject of applied geoinformation, will once again be taking place in Salzburg.

For the OpenStreetMap and OSGeo booth, people are wanted who want to take a look and chat a bit about their hobby. (can also be done on a daily basis)

The time passed quickly for us and today the AGIT came to an end. Despite a short night, we started the day full of energy and were available to help visitors with our knowledge.

On the last day, some visitors took OSM mugs from us in return for a small donation. We are always pleased when people are willing to support the OSM association in this way. Many thanks to the many donors.

Like yesterday, the weather was fantastically sunny again. I set off for the University of Salzburg shortly before 8 o’clock.

After a short walk, I set about reopening the OSM & OSGeo stand.

There is still a small amount of QGIS Cookies left over from the day before.

After yesterday’s preparation day, we didn’t have much work to do in the morning to get the stand ready for visitors.

This year, Markus came up with something special that was very well received by the visitors:

By the end of the day, almost all 40 cockies had been eaten.

This year, Markus and I are once again representing the OpenStreetMap Association Austria at AGIT. As last year, we will try to capture our impressions for you in the form of blog entries over the next few days.

Today began with packing up the trade fair materials in the morning, then loading them into the car, driving to Salzburg and finally setting up the stand.

Unfortunately, our departure was delayed by about two hours due to a medical incident, but we were finally able to make the journey together. Despite a small handicap, Markus was able to actively support me during the construction.

On day 2 of the Maker Faire Vienna 2019, the stream of visitors did not abate. Numerous visitors came again who wanted to find out more about OpenstreetMap.

Many of them came into contact with the map for the first time, while others already use it regularly in their private or professional lives. Another group of people actively contributes to the map, were happy to see us and thanked us for the map and the opportunities it has given them. Since we don’t maintain the map, we are happy to pass on our thanks to the OSM community! One of the key messages of our information was that OSM is a community project and only works through the work of each individual.

As announced in the previous blog post, the OSM.AT association will be represented at the Maker Faire Vienna 2019 with a stand.

The stand was already set up on the Friday before the Maker Faire.

We were given a smaller stand than we are used to at other trade fairs, but with a few adjustments we were able to set up most of the trade fair material. We worked late into the night to get everything ready for the next day.

OpenStreetMap will be represented at this year’s Maker Faire in Vienna from 04.05.2019 - 05.05.2019!

Some hard-working members of the association have come together to man an exhibition stand and give an overview of OpenStreetMap.

The Linuxwochen Vienna will take place at the FH Technikum Wien from 02/05/2019 to 04/05/2019! https://www.linuxwochen.at/ The CallForPapers for the submission of your own contributions has been running for a few days now.

There are rumours that there will be a focus track on open geodata and GIS.

On Friday, 6 September 2019, an exciting event will take place: PgDay Austria, a mini-conference all about the popular relational open-source database PostgreSQL.

This is particularly interesting because it is precisely this database that is used for the central storage of the primary OpenStreetMap database.

Papers can still be submitted at https://pgday.at/programm/ until 01/04/2019. The conference is organised by the PostgreSQL consulting company CyberTec (www.cybertec-postgresql.com).
